Metaphor specializes in the packaging and placement of translated fiction and illustrated books, both photographic and graphic arts. We think of publishing as the highest expression in the life of a creative idea, composed of interlocking practices that together build the tangible proof on paper or with pixels. The author, the photographer, the artist, the translator, the designer, the editor, must all work together in harmony if the book is to find its finest form.

As award-winning creatives with almost 80 years of collective publishing experience, we strive for honesty and clarity in building publishing projects with creators and the partners who will introduce the work to the world market.

For translated work, we focus on overlooked gems—books that have won the hearts of readers in their home language, but have never been invited into the community of books translated into English. Metaphor Books intends to represent a new home in the English reading community for the great and overlooked books not yet brought to these shores.
